Goju-ryu (translated as “hard/soft” school) Karate traces its roots to Okinawa and recognizes Chojun Miyagi (Miyagusuku in Okinawan) as the person who originally brought the art to Japan in the early 20th century. Unlike some other Karate styles, which emphasize flashier kicking combinations or long range punching techniques similar to Northern Kung-fu systems, Goju remains true to its roots in Fukien, China as a hybrid style with emphasis on “sanchin”, which is a focused breathing technique, close range fighting, and circular blocks to complement the array of punches and kicks that are also integral to the art. In Japan, Goju Karate was popularized by the late Gogen “The Cat” Yamaguchi, who was famous for his long hair and disciplined, dedicated approach to living the martial arts.

The Karate Dojo’s Training Video collection offers a video series of DVDs that will allow you an introduction to Goju-ryu Karate with the convenience of home study. While it cannot replace fully qualified instruction, the DVD’s will cover the fundamentals of Goju and reveal many of the art’s unique techniques, applications and kata (forms). Beginning students who are studying the art will find these DVDs to be a great learning aid. Intermediate or advanced students of other martial arts systems will find useful information in these videos to either supplement their present training or perhaps pique their curiosity into more formal study of this classic Okinawan art.

Online Karate Training provides the convenience of observing and reviewing different techniques at an individual, comfortable pace in a private setting. There is no pressure and one can rewind and freeze frame as much as desired without fear of missing any details that might occur in a class setting.

Many people in the West have seen Goju karate, though they may not be aware of it. Japanese movie star Shinichi “Sonny” Chiba (“Kill Bill”) demonstrated sanchin and numerous other Goju techniques in his “Streetfighter” series and other action films of the 70’s. Pat Morita’s portrayal of Mr. Miyagi in the original “Karate Kid” movies is a direct tribute to this major Okinawan Karate style.

Master Instructor Hanshi has been teaching the martial arts for decades and has many students throughout the country. Using state of the art modern video technology, he hopes that The Karate Dojo’s Training Video series on Karate and other systems will be a benefit to martial art students from all levels and backgrounds. While self-teaching is not an ideal way to learn, these videos demonstrate the proper fundamentals necessary for future advancement in the art. Caution is advised if practiced unsupervised.

In an era where assaults and burglaries are an unfortunate reality in every metropolis, learning a skill set that can help you protect yourself and your loved ones is a very good idea. As you read this article, a few million North Americans are probably busy working out at their local gyms. While gym routines are good for building muscle and impressing yourself while flexing in a mirror, the plain truth is that few bodybuilders are in a position to actually protect themselves should a situation arise. Karate, on the other hand, is an ancient discipline with time tested results that focuses more on striking and positioning than repetitious heavy lifting.

If you are interested in learning karate, online karate training is your best move. If you are ready to pursue learning karate online, look no further than the Karate Dojo’s Training Videos. Made using a bevy of experts and black belt martial artists, these videos provide step-by-step training that will allow you to progress at your own pace and inside of the comfort and security of your own home.

Going to evening or weekend karate classes can be costly, both in terms of the cost of the course and the cost of the gasoline used to get you to the destination. Miss just one class and you can fall behind to a point where the rest of the training is not fully grasped or understood. These costs and types of issues never arise when you engage in online karate training. Additionally, you can schedule your lessons whenever you wish and decide to perform one at the drop of a hat.

Online karate training is good for you for two major reasons. First, it will make your body stronger and more flexible while increasing your endurance. Karate is an excellent aerobic activity because it increases the heart rate for an extended amount of time. It is nearly impossible to rise through the ranks of karate without building your body into a temple because the moves that are required can only be properly executed by someone who is in good overall physical shape.

Secondly, online karate training will allow you to feel comfortable and confident in the rare chance that a physical altercation of some kind does arise. No sane person that knows karate goes out on the streets looking for fights, but the ability to defend yourself is a tremendous asset if it is ever needed. Check out the Karate Dojo’s Training Videos to get your journey toward health and confidence underway.
